Scooters, Skateboards, Kids - and Helmets!

Australian Study on Kids Head Injuries

A recent study from Australia links the risk of serious head injury to kids, and their use of a helmet.

In particular, the study identified the low helmet use while young kids ride scooters or ride a skateboard. According to the study, "children who ride a push-scooter were among the least likely to wear a helmet but the most likely to have a head injury."

If your son or daughter loves to ride around the neighborhood on their Razor scooter, make sure they wear their helmet. It doesn't take much for a seam in the sidewalk to cause them to flip off the scooter and hit their head.

Another sobering stat from the study was that of the kids who visited the hospital for a head injury from a bicycle accident, only 65% of them were wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. Bicycles, scooters, skateboards - if your kids on one, please make them wear a helmet.

Here's the article describing more about the Australian kids head injury study.
