Scooter Safety Gear Recommendations

Razor Scooter Protective Gear Advice

Non-powered scooter riding is a relatively new sport (in terms of government regulation speed), so there is not a lot of hard advice on safety or protective gear. It may be tempting to think of a scooter as a skateboard with a handlebar, and that's somewhat accurate as far as where kids should ride scooters. However, scooter riders need a helmet certified to CPSC Bike Helmet Standards.

General Recommendations for Scooter Safety

  • Always Wear a helmet
  • Wear knee and elbow pads, especially if you're going to be trying any tricks on the scooter
  • Stay off the street - scooters and traffic don't mix
  • Ride only during daylight
  • Kids 10 and under should be supervised by an adult
  • Don't ride above your abilities
  • Avoid gravel and uneven pavement
  • Wear a Bicycle Helmet Certified to the CPSC Bike Helmet Standards
